On Tuesday we were promised a dinner experience. We surely had one. Our dinner is what is known as a steamboat. It is similar to fondu in that you cook your own food in boiling broth, however, this was much more fun. Each table gets a wait person who stays with you throughout the meal and sees that everything goes smoothly.
Step one is to make your dipping sauces. There is a bar of ingredients to choose from and you can combine in any way you choose. Each one has a sign telling the name and what it tastes like as well as any medicinal properties. Since we didn't know what we were doing we just got creative.
At the table two types of broth are prepared for cooking. We had one basic broth flavored with mushrooms and veggies and one made with chilies and other spices to make a dish with lots of zing.
We even gor aprons to wear which was a good thing. The highlight of the evening was "The Noodle Man." He starts with a piece of dough about 3 x 8 inches. In a manner similar to tossing a pizza crust, he begins to spin and twirl and the dough stretches. At one point he was spinning it around Ken like a lasso and whipping it over all of our heads. When he finishes there is a noodle about 1" by 12 feet. He then gathers it up and puts it in the pot to cook. It was very tasty, too.
We were all quite full and happy so we actually cancelled a couple of our items. There was no where to put anything more except for the beautiful fruit they brought to the table.
We ended our meal a little bit heavier but very satisfied.
This restaurant is known for service. We didn't have to wait for our table, but if you do there are women who will polish your nails or shine your shoes (for free) while you wait. When we were leaving a torrential rain was coming down and none of us had brought our umbrellas. So as we left the staff was there to give us rain ponchos. We were all a vision in transparent pink - even Ken.
It was a funny ending to a great evening and we were off to the hotel to get ready for the next day.
