Sky Bridge

There is a reason they call it the Sky Bridge. On Saturday morning we headed to the far side of Langkawi to the Chinese Village and the Sky Bridge. This engineering marvel is nestled between the two tallest peaks on Langkawi.

We started out with a visit to the ladies room (Ken of course went his own way) and found the most beautiful setting imaginable. There was an open air courtyard, a pond and fish and even little bridges.

Following our rest stop we headed to the cable car that would take us to the top of the mountains.

As we rose, the red tiled roofs of the village below just kept getting smaller and smaller. For the last several hundred meters the rise was so steep it was more like an elevator than a cable car.

Once we reached the first peak, the car took a left turn and rose more gently to the second peak and the access to the Sky Bridge.

What else would we expect but steps? We descended to the start of the bridge and were completely wowed.

The bridge is an engineering marvel. It is suspended from metal framework secured to the side of the mountain. There is a little sway with the breeze and the movement of the visitors.

The floorboards have just enough space between them to get a peek at what is (or isn't) below. It is a very long way down.

We crossed the bridge to the far viewing platform and a few wispy clouds made an appearance just to make the photos more interesting.

We started back across the bridge still in awe with where we were.

To paraphrase a saying, what goes down must come up.

Once we reached the cable car platform, we had to go up again. There are two viewing platforms on the top of the highest peak with 360 degree views and we just had to see them.

Remember those wispy clouds? Well, for a short while they became a tad bit more than wispy.

Luckily the clouds were below us and they didn't stay for very long. Soon the view returned to its usual spectacular panorama.

We finished up our visit to the top of Langkawi with our now habitual celebration - ice cream! This time it was hand scooped and I even had a scoop of purple yam ice cream. It was delicious.

We got a last view from the top and boarded the cable car for our descent.

Partway down we saw another area to visit, the Seven Pools Waterfall. But since it was over an hour hike uphill to the bottom of it and even longer to the top. We opted for a long range look. You have to save something for your next visit, right?

Once back in the village, we came across a small little animal that Ken and May Lene were too timid to get close to. I, however, found him charming and quite friendly.

We wandered through the village before heading out to lunch. Climbing around the tops of mountains can work up quite an appetite.

Another beautiful morning in Paradise.
